I’ve never been picky about shower heads. As long as they provide the right water pressure, I’m happy. But when I saw a beautiful ad for Jolie’s filtered showerheads last year, I started to think seriously about the water itself.
While I’ve always known about the benefits of using a drinking water filter, this was the first time I really thought about the benefits of using one in the shower.
After all, how clean can I be in the shower if the water is filled with common contaminants like aluminum, lead or copper?
This led me down a research rabbit hole where I discovered that showering with filtered water not only limited my exposure to toxins, but also reduced my exposure to toxins. Indeed, the hair becomes softer and the skin smoother.
To find out if these claims were true, I splurged on a Jolie filter shower head and put it to the test—and the results surprised me.
In short: yes, filtered shower water does make a difference. I was skeptical that this sleek, Instagrammable Jolie filter shower head would have any noticeable effect on my hair or skin, but damn, it proved me wrong.
However, don’t take my word for it. Riggs Eckelberry, founder and CEO of clean water innovation center OriginClear, previously told MindbodyGreen that filtering your shower water can provide significant and visible results: It can soften skin, improve hair growth and reduce skin inflammation. “The bottom line is that the less we are exposed to these toxins, the better our overall health will be,” he explains. “Leather absorbs moisture, so it’s important to make sure it’s quality.”
Filtering your shower water helps remove harmful toxins and pollutants that can affect the health of your skin and hair. Additionally, research shows that hard water can reduce hair strength and cause breakage1 and is also associated with atopic eczema.
The Jolie Shower Head with Filter is not only my favorite beauty tip, but it’s exactly what it sounds like: an easy-to-install shower head that’s universally suitable for any shower in America.
Jolie uses KD-55 to remove chlorine and other heavy metals from water. The filter also comes with calcium sulfite beads to further remove chlorine from the water. By removing these toxins and harsh chemicals from your water, Jolie can leave you with healthier hair and skin, as well as improved overall health every time you shower.
Nothing reduces the effectiveness of a shower more than water that doesn’t cover you completely. Luckily, this has never been an issue with the Jolie Filter Showerhead. It even has a removable ball joint so anyone can position the water flow perfectly. The best part? All this happens without affecting water pressure. In fact, my water pressure has improved since installing Jolie.
I’m a big fan of good branding (remember, it was Instagram ads that got me on the Jolie train) and everything about Jolie’s packaging is spot on. Not only does the brand use recyclable materials to deliver its shower heads, but it also eliminates plastic packaging, packing peanuts, extra cardboard, balloons, and virtually any wasted space.
So, what’s in the box, you ask? Literally all you need to install the Jolie: the shower head itself, a replacement filter (already located inside the shower head), wrenches, duct tape, and a how-to guide with easy-to-follow installation instructions.
Speaking of setup, let’s break down everything you need to know about how to install a Jolie shower head with filter. First of all, I’m not a plumber (shocking, I know). The fear of installation led me to ask for help (from a friend who was also not a plumber), but honestly, I could have done it myself.
To install the Jolie, you simply unscrew the existing shower head (put it somewhere safe if you’re removing!) and carefully follow the brand’s instructions. The only tools you’ll need are a wrench and duct tape, which are kept neatly in the box.
The entire installation process took less than 10 minutes, and the hardest part was tightening the shower head tightly enough to prevent dripping. This is where duct tape and wrenches come into play. Tip: You’ll need more duct tape than you think.
Once you’ve fucked Jolie, you’re ready to go home. That is, of course, until you need to replace the filter after three months. Pro tip: Subscribe and you’ll receive filters every 90 days (so you can save on your first purchase, too).
Unlike other products that claim to improve skin and hair, incorporating Jolie into my life was almost easy. Once the installation was complete, I went about my daily routine and showered as usual. Here’s the thing…
Okay, now the fun part: my results. To be clear, while it’s easy to install, I wouldn’t use a product that needs to be replaced every 90 days unless it has proven its worth, and Jolie certainly has.
Seriously, I noticed a difference the first time I took a shower. The water is smoother and cleaner, and I feel good because I’m no longer swimming in potentially harmful chemicals. In fact, I feel like my shampoo lathers up more easily and I use less soap than usual.
When I got out of the shower on the first day, I was surprised to find that my skin didn’t have that typical tight feeling that I was used to. When I blow-dried my hair, it felt smoother than usual.
Julie continues to impress me when it comes to long term results. Honestly, I feel cleaner when I use it.
I use less product than before, but my skin still feels more hydrated. Those little bumps I had on my elbows and knees were gone. When I apply the lotion it becomes much easier; I feel like it is absorbed into the skin rather than staying on it.
Over the past three months of using Jolie, I have noticed a significant reduction in hair loss (an issue I have struggled with for years). Moreover, my hair looks shinier and healthier. The scalp is no longer itchy. I tested Jolie in cooler months, so I blow-dry my hair most of the time, but the few times I let it air dry, frizz was noticeably reduced. It’s even growing faster!
The beautiful design completely improves my shower experience and many people have noticed an improvement in my skin and hair. I recently stayed at a luxury hotel with a rain shower, but I couldn’t wait to get back to Julie’s house. In fact, I noticed that my skin and hair felt so different that I no longer wanted to wash myself in the sink. I even convinced my boyfriend to buy one to take his place. With easy installation, impressive results and no extra time spent on your daily routine, you won’t regret upgrading your shower.
